Safety Engineer Description
- Review plans and specifications for new or existing machinery and equipment and ensure they meet safety standards.
- You can identify and correct any potential hazards by inspecting equipment, safety devices, and facilities. You can also evaluate the effectiveness of various industrial control mechanisms.
- After an inspection, pay close attention to the changes that are needed.
- Direct and supervise the installation of safety equipment on machines, review employee safety programs, and recommend improvements when necessary.
- Lead plant teams to analyze high-risk areas and compile HIRA and mitigating measures.
- Report the results of audits to the safety system program.
- Ability to manage projects, develop schedules, and complete work by the schedule.
- As part of the review of the safety approval processes, it is essential to inform the relevant stakeholders.
- Support plant incident investigations, determine root causes, and drive corrective action until the incident is closed.
- Focus on safety risks and mitigation towards closing the loops and possible reengineering of the system to remove the risk.
- Work with production and maintenance procedures to ensure the appropriate administrative controls are in position.
- Responsible for executing, driving, and obtaining the best resources possible from the plant for improvement projects.
- GM meetings and forums – Lead the way in promoting safety and supporting GM.
- The Anomaly Recording and Action Mitigations, and Closing the Loops on These.
- Closed Loops: Verify with GM and sign off.
- Drive Risk Management and inform GM about progress and issues that need support.
- PSIF – Proactively hinting on area, mitigate, Close Loop, and Verify.
- Overseeing the HIRA champion of Area – ensure proper HIRAs are conducted.
- You must have excellent technical skills in the following areas: electricity (for example, understanding and explaining an electric block diagram), introductory thermodynamics and chemistry, and basic automation. They should be able, with these skills, to detect and understand the risks in our industry and give comprehensive advice about introductory chemistry, materials science, and automation. Safety Engineer Requirements
- B-Eng. Degree (NQF 8/10) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Preferable: Diploma in Safety Management, or NEBOSH General Certification.
