The Department of Electrical Engineering at Pretoria Campus has a permanent Senior Lecturer position in the field of Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in Power Systems.

Critical Performance Areas

  • Contribute to the quality of teaching and learning in the area of Power Systems and Green Energy Systems.
  • Participate actively in lead subject and curriculum committees.
  • Assume responsibility and play an important role in compiling and maintaining quality study guides and laboratory guides. The role also involves mentorship, quality assurance, revisions and updates of materials to meet industry standards and Engineering Council regulations.
  • Play a key role in the department, faculty and institution initiatives.
  • Manage project activities in relevant Centres and Institutes.
  • Industry knows you as an expert in the region who can solve industrial problems.
  • Liaison between industry and course/subject levels in regards to curricula, visits, research and other interactions.

  • Develop and present Short Learning Programmes that will assist in the skills and development of industries.
  • Contribute to the acquisition of significant projects, external funding and research and innovation.
  • Responsible for funding and independent projects in research and innovation.
  • Contribute in research and innovation as well as strategic direction determination and mentoring within the niche of machines and power electronics and related fields. Lead research and innovative activities at Technology Stations Centres Institutes Research Niche Areas.
  • Produce at minimum 1.5 research output units each year.
  • Supervision of students at all levels, including doctoral.
  • Member of professional societies and bodies’ sub-committees.
  • Participate in and lead community engagement projects.

Senior Lecturer Requirement

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering with specializations in Power Systems, Green Energy Systems or a relevant Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering (NQF level 10).
  • Three (3) years relevant experience as a lecturer.
  • A record of successful supervision of Master’s or Doctoral level students will be a plus.
  • The ability to contribute to the academic/research outputs of accredited journals or peer-reviewed conferences is an advantage.
  • It is an advantage to have evidence of external funding of research projects. Also, involvement and liaison with industry in Centres and Technology Stations will be an asset.
  • Participation in the development and implementation of new curricula will be a plus.
  • Experience in Power Systems or Green Energy Systems, as well as successful projects, will be considered an asset.
