General Assistant is a function supporting the Facilities Unit at the Independent Power Producer Office.
2010, the IPPO was created to help South Africa overcome its severe electricity shortages by acquiring new energy production capacity from Independent Power Producers. The IPPO is a project hosted by the Development Bank of Southern Africa under a Memorandum of Agreement between the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), the National Treasury, and the DBSA. The mandate of the IPP Office is to provide specialized services to the government, including a) IPPEnergy Procurement Management, b) Monitoring, Evaluation, and Contract Management, and c)Professional Advisory Services. IPPO’s expertise, skills, and ability to deliver on time are recognized domestically and internationally.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Support Service
- Workstations can be set up according to departmental requests.
- Check and maintain equipment, furniture and furnishings to ensure they are in good working order.
- Resolve any problems that you encounter during your daily checks.
- Report any errors to the relevant department. This will ensure a timely resolution.
- Prepare materials to be used in the Bid Window (paper shredding and room setup).

Internal Delivery and Asset Management
- As per order, collect, check and deliver the stationery.
- Assist in the relocation of office furniture, ensuring proper set-up and safety.
- Identify and label assets accurately. This includes relocation and packing in accordance with departmental requests.
- Manage key management to ensure safe return and accurate tracking.
Teamwork and Self-Management
- Keep a professional appearance and adhere to deadlines.
- Continue to improve your skills and knowledge by seeking and accepting feedback.
- Demonstrate teamwork to achieve common goals.
General Assistant Qualification
- Matric
- Experience in customer service for senior executives of at least 2 to 3 years.
- Experience in general maintenance, e.g. Fixing loose cabinets and door knobs, changing lightbulbs, fixing leaky taps, etc.
- Basic Computer Literacy – MS Word, Excel and Outlook
- Minimum of 2-3 years experience in basic administrative functions, including preparing and maintaining basic spreadsheets.
