Requirements For Lecturer Vacancies

  • Minimum NQF level 9 qualification in Photography (Masters), or in a field related to photography (the undergraduate degree must be in the subject of photography).
  • It is an advantage to have completed courses in digital media strategy or social media marketing.
  • Candidates must be able show a portfolio of professional photography.
  • Computer literacy is required in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom as well as Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and other related applications.

Core Functions

  • Teach: Provide both theoretical and practical modules in photography to students. Focus on core concepts, while integrating strategies for social media.
  • Nentor: Help students develop their technical photography skills, portfolios for social media, and understanding of digital content.
  • Create: Create engaging course materials that emphasize both the business and art of photography. This includes lessons on how to leverage social media for professional growth. Collaborate with passionate academics and professionals in the industry, and contribute to departmental projects and events. Stay current with the latest trends in commercial photography, social media and other areas of business. Your curriculum should be updated to reflect this.
  • Research and Publish: Contribute to academic publications and conduct research on photography and digital media.
  • Administrative Responsibilities : Manage the teaching and learning administration including module content, exams and first-year coordination. Participate in community service, industry liaison, curriculum development and integration of new technology, as well as contributing to departmental activities.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Commercial photography is a skill and knowledge that must be mastered.
  • Candidates must be able show a portfolio of professional photography.
  • It is important to have advanced computer literacy, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and Microsoft Office.
  • Google Drive, and other related applications, as well as relevant learning management systems (LMS), are also essential.
  • Experience managing professional photography accounts on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook or TikTok.
