A vacancy exists for two (2) Gate Guards at Addo Elephant National Park (AENP Section). The successful incumbents will report to the APU Ranger Sergeant.
Requirements
- Minimum Grade 12 (Std 10) Certificate.
- The Ranger Fitness Selection Program must be completed successfully.
- A basic field ranger training certificate (will be an asset)
- Experience in conservation is a plus.
- Experience in the security/access control industry is required.
- Knowledge of conservation legislation relevant to the area.
- You must be willing to submit to a medical examination.

Responsibilities
- Participation in law enforcement includes access control, secure workplace, reporting and communication.
- Resolve minor disputes that may arise on the entrance gate.
- The park’s website is a great resource for guests to get detailed information about the park.
- Guard the park entrance gate to prevent unauthorised removal of park property.
- Open the gate so that employees, deliveries and contractors as well as authorized guests can enter the park.
- Check the credentials of anyone entering the park.
- Control traffic into and out of the park.
- Direct guests and authorized personnel in the park to different parts
- Perform maintenance duties, such as mowing the lawns and cleaning gate areas.
- Record the arrival and departure times of employees and guests
Please Note
Accommodation will be provided for the successful candidate in the park. The successful candidate must live in the park as a condition of employment.
The remuneration includes a base salary based on a salary scale for a Paterson grade B1 position, as well as allowances and benefits specified in the HR tariff document and conditions of services of SANParks.
