Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a qualified Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant to work in their Optenhorst store, Paarl. You will be responsible for providing pharmaceutical care to patients by taking on responsibility for their medicine-related requirements and meeting them.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Help with the sale or distribution of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 drugs or substances
- Assist in the preparation, manipulation, or compounding of a scheduled substance or non-sterile medication according to the formula and standard operating procedure approved by the pharmacist responsible
- Assist in the manufacture of a nonsterile medicine or a scheduled substance using a formula and standard operational procedures that have been approved by the pharmacist responsible
- Repackaging medicine
- Help with the distribution and stock control of Schedule 1-5 medicines or Scheduled substances
- Help with the order of medicines and substances scheduled up to and including Schedule 6 on the instruction of an authorized person in accordance with the Medicines Act.
- The pharmacist will assist with the preparation and reading of a prescription. This includes the selection, compounding or manipulation of the medication; labelling the container and supplying the medicine in it after the interpretation and evaluation by the pharmacist.
- Interpret scripts accurately and in a responsible and professional manner, while adhering to the SAPC’s legal requirements.
- Verify patient details and script details.
- Be aware of the common drug dosages and important drug interactions.
- Patients should be given accurate instructions on how to use the medicine.
- Be aware of any changes to medical aid procedures, including the requirements for claims and dispensing.
- Make sure all medication is checked by a pharmacist for accuracy and signed.
- Advice and assistance to patients in the dispensary, front-shop, and self-medication
- Follow-up with patients on the script tracking report requested by dispensary managers, and appointments
- Patients should be informed about the costs of medical aid.
- Information to the public to promote health
- All paperwork required for accurate submission of medical aid claims
- Corrections to scripts rejected by the medical aid
- Ensure that chronic HIV/AIDS, oncology and cancer medications are approved
- Create and maintain customer profiles in the system
- UCS should receive notification to merge profiles centrally and locally.
- Note any messages on the profile of the customer and take appropriate action
- Dispensary managers should be informed of low stock levels and stock mistakes.
- Receiving dispensary stocks in accordance with Dis-Chem SOPs and merchandise in accordance to FEFO
- Facilitate biannual stocktakes
- Stock, cash and Asset Control
