Job description

JBS invites you to join its journey. This will fundamentally change the way you do business and provide value to customers. The position focuses on the business implications and emerging digital technologies in an increasingly diverse world.

The JBS is looking for a Senior Manager who has experience working in a Business School. This person will be responsible for managing and overseeing the partnerships and stakeholders formed with the Centre for African Business. They should also have exposure to innovative solutions, including those in the following fields:

  • Digital Transformation
  • Corporate and Financial Strategy
  • Innovation (including Entrepreneurship)
  • 4IR Technologies
  • Data science
  • Financial Management
  • Budgeting

Responsibilities

  • Case Studies: Develop and publish
  • Manage researchers, case study authors within and outside UJ.
  • CAB should coordinate research outputs and case studies.
  • Build a network of professional associates to support JBS and CAB.
  • Create a pipeline of articles and case studies.
  • Regularly contribute to the thought leadership of media and publications.
  • Plan and coordinate educational immersions throughout South Africa and Africa.
  • Help in raising funds for CAB, and establishing partnerships.
  • Budget and planning management for the Centre.
  • Create collaborative networks and nurture partnerships around case studies, research outputs and other sources of information.
  • Plan, organize, and manage seminars, workshops and short courses within CAB.
  • Regular seminars and case study workshops.
  • Facilitate discussions with international students about African business and engage with them.
  • Research and publish regularly in academic journals accredited.
  • Monitor the research output of CAB.
  • Keep up with the latest in expertise.
  • Maintain and build strategic partnerships both within and outside the university.
  • Manage budget process. Prepare budget according to strategy. Capture and submit.
  • Monitor, analyze and interpret expenditure in relation to budget and/or financing and provide advice on both prudent and strategic budget maintenance.
  • Liaise with all stakeholders in relation to budgeting and the proper use and forecasting thereof.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned from time to time.
  • Stay current with digital transformation methodologies and protocols in order to train stakeholders
  • Create and maintain professional networks both internally and externally

Minimum requirements

  • The relevant Masters’s degree (NQF 9), (a registered or completed Doctoral qualification is advantageous).
  • Experience in Business Case Study Writing
  • Case Study Writing and Teaching Certificates or Diplomas in Case Study Writing and Teaching.
  • Familiarity of the channels and processes for case outputs, publication and exposure.
  • Work and experience at a Business school.
  • Experience running workshops, seminars and programmes in Africa.
  • Business, policy circles and academia in Africa and the global markets.
  • Budgeting and planning experience.
  • You should have a good publication record, and a research output that includes academic research as well as applied research.
  • Knowledge of the African context and commercial players and a keen interest in African issues
  • Understanding the South African and African Business Education
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary fields
  • Exposure to Master’s and doctoral coordination
