Purpose for Psychologist Position

• Enhance student wellbeing, and contribute to retention and productivity by providing holistic and agile mental and therapeutic health services. This will ensure that students achieve academic success and optimal well-being.
• Contribute to the enhancement of student life and the university experience for students in accordance with University of Fort Hare’s strategic priorities and objectives.
• Contribute to the development and growth of psychologists by providing graduate training programs and supervising intern psychologists.

Psychologist Requirements and Competencies

• Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology or Counselling
• Three years of experience as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist.
• Experience in Higher Education Sector: 1 year
• Driver’s license
• Complying with HPCSA regulations, Ethical guidelines and knowledge of them
• Communication and Interpersonal Skills
• Diagnostic and psychotherapeutic skills
• Crisis Management skills
• Mental health of students
• Training, facilitation, and coordination
• Project management skills
• Supervision skills
• Problem Solving/Decision-making/Analytical thinking

Responsibilities for Psychologist Job

• Students at UFH can receive individual psychotherapy and counseling
• Individual and group interventions (Residence Talk Programme)
• Provide trauma debriefings and crisis interventions to respond to traumatic events and emergencies.
• Intern psychologists can be supervised individually or in groups.
• Supervision of Intern Psychologist’s Community Interventions
• Evaluation of Intern Psychologists
• Students can be trained in a variety of ways, including: Social Work, Wellness Leaders & Mentors
• Monthly progress and statistical reports
• Mental health and Wellness Programmes Multicampus
